Support Safe Place for Pets with a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) from Your IRA
A QCD MAY SATISFY THE REQUIRED MINIMUM DISTRIBUTION (RMD) FOR DONORS AGE 72 OR OLDER.
Please note that generally, gifts must come out of your IRA before December 31st of each year to satisfy IRS requirements.
WHAT IS A REQUIRED MINIMUM DISTRIBUTION (RMD)?
Your required minimum distribution is the minimum amount you must withdrawal from your account each year. You generally have to start making withdrawals from your IRA, SEP IRA, SIMPLE IRA, or retirement plan account when you reach age 72.
Please visit IRS.gov for more information about QCDs.
WHAT IS A QUALIFIED CHARITABLE DISTRIBUTION (QCD)?
A qualified charitable distribution (QCD) generally is a nontaxable distribution of funds from your IRA (other than a SEP or SIMPLE IRA) directly to a qualified charitable organization, such as Safe Place for Pets. Because the gift goes directly to a charity without ever passing through your hands, there would be no income tax on the distribution. You can make QCDs of up to $100,000 each tax year.
Please visit IRS.gov for more information about QCDs.
WHO CAN MAKE A QUALIFIED CHARITABLE DISTRIBUTION?
QCDs can be made by anyone age 72 or older who is required to take minimum distributions from their IRA (other than a SEP or SIMPLE IRA). If you are required to distribute a minimum distribution from your IRA and do not need some or all of the money for personal use, please consider making a QCD. Doing so provides the following:
You can potentially satisfy your required minimum distribution requirement
A QCD excludes the amount donated from your taxable income
You support the work of Safe Place for Pets
Please visit IRS.gov for more information about eligibility requirements.
HOW DO I MAKE A QUALIFIED CHARITABLE DISTRIBUTION?
Your QCD must be made directly from your IRA custodian to Safe Place for Pets on your behalf. Each financial institution has its own processes and procedures for initiating a qualified charitable distribution. When contacting your IRA custodian please provide them with the following information:
